Pop-Up Store looking for Swap Remainders to Give to Homeless

Kelsey Painter is doing a FREE street store and potluck in the park October 25th, and has asked our swap coordinators for remainders to be the ‘goodies’ people can shop for. Wanted to alert our free swap community so if you know of other goodies (garage sale leftovers in good shape?  Your mom/dad/uncle/grandma cleaning out clothing in good condition?)  you can contribute as well.  She’ll even pick your items up for you!!!  Just make sure they are clean and in great condition, as homeless people may not have access to a sewing machine or a free washing machine.

*  UPDATE: this event is all-inclusive and will be serving varied populations – from low income, no income, low resource, to homeless, etc.  Street Store wants to reach out to everyone in need.   🙂

Thanks for making a positive difference-

Barb Hughes

Subject: Street Store Donations?

Date: October 1, 2014 at 11:12:29 AM PDT

Barb Hughes,

Hello there! My name is Kelsey Painter and I am an AmeriCorps member currently serving in Portland. I am emailing you because October 25th is national “Make a Difference” day and I have partnered with Potluck in the Park (http://www.potluckinthepark.org/) to create a Street Store (http://thestreetstore.org/)

Street Store is a nonprofit that provides basic materials for hosting a single day outside store with clean donated clothing for people without homes or with low resources to shop through. It’s an awesome program that allows guests to shop, try clothes on, and have a choice as to what clothes they want to wear and take home.

This is where I could use your help! Could we partner in providing clothes for the guests? Obviously, anything left over I would find a nonprofit to donate to (that would give the clothes away for free) or post them on freecycle, to continue Swap Positive’s values.

I do apologize for the late notice (this idea was late to come into fruition) and I appreciate any and all help you can provide!

Thanks very much Barb! I look forward to hearing from you.

Best,

Kelsey Painter

  1. Hi Nicole! As Barb suggested, I am indeed looking for clothes for all people of all sizes. Thanks so much for reaching out and checking in!

I also just wanted to make a side note that this event is all-inclusive and we will be serving varied populations – from low income, no income, low resource, to homeless, Street Store wants to reach out to anyone in need 🙂

  2. HI Nicole:) Go ahead and contact her directly. I believe she is looking for all sizes/ages/sexes, but asking her for clarification would be great. Thanks for asking.

  3. Barb,
What size will she need? I know there are a lot of homeless people out there I just wondering what sizes she is asking for.
